What this test measures
A urine routine examines physical appearance, chemistry and microscopy in one go. It reports protein, glucose, ketones, blood, pH and specific gravity, and looks under the microscope for pus cells, red cells, crystals and casts – findings that point towards urinary infection, kidney stress or uncontrolled sugar.
Who should consider it
Anyone with burning during urination, increased frequency, cloudy or foul-smelling urine, or lower abdominal discomfort. Also a standard part of pregnancy care, pre-surgical workups and annual health checks.
Preparation
A first-morning midstream sample is best. Clean the area, pass the first part of the stream into the toilet, then collect the middle portion in the sterile container we provide. Women should avoid sampling during periods where possible.
