What this test measures
hsCRP uses a more sensitive method to measure C-reactive protein at the very low concentrations that standard CRP cannot resolve. At this scale it reflects the quiet, long-running inflammation associated with arterial disease rather than acute infection.
Who should consider it
Adults whose physician is refining cardiovascular risk beyond cholesterol alone – particularly those with a family history of early heart disease, borderline lipid results, diabetes or metabolic syndrome. It is a risk-stratification tool, not a standalone verdict.
Preparation
No fasting required. Postpone the test if you currently have an infection, injury or flare of any inflammatory condition, as these will raise the value and obscure the baseline your doctor wants.
