What this test measures
The panel reports total cholesterol, LDL (the fraction that builds up in artery walls), HDL (which helps clear it), VLDL and triglycerides. Read together, these values let your physician estimate cardiovascular risk rather than judge a single number.
Who should consider it
Every adult from about age 30, and sooner if there is a family history of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, smoking, or a largely desk-bound routine. In NCR office corridors, an annual lipid check is one of the highest-value tests you can do.
Preparation
A 9 to 12 hour overnight fast is preferred, with plain water allowed. Your doctor may accept a non-fasting sample in some situations – please confirm before booking.
