Does one week of Diwali sweets change your HbA1c?
Not by much. HbA1c reflects your average blood sugar over roughly the last 2–3 months, so a single festive week moves it only slightly. That makes HbA1c useful for seeing your overall control across the year, while fasting and post-meal (PP) sugar show what your sugar is doing now.
That is why many doctors ask for both: HbA1c for the long view, and fasting + PP sugar a week or two after the festival if sugar may have run high. If you already have diabetes, follow the testing schedule your doctor has given you; HbA1c is commonly repeated every 3 months.

How to prepare for fasting and PP sugar
- Eat your usual dinner and then fast 8–12 hours. Plain water is fine; avoid tea, coffee, milk and juice.
- Take your regular medicines as your doctor has advised, and tell the phlebotomist what you take.
- Give the fasting sample, then eat your usual breakfast.
- The PP sample is taken 2 hours after you start eating. Ask when booking whether to give it at home or at the lab.
Smog after Diwali
November air in Greater Noida West is often poor after the fireworks. Blood tests cannot measure lung health. If you have a cough, wheeze or breathlessness that does not settle, see your doctor; Index Path Labs does not perform lung function tests.
