What this test measures
This test looks for the antibodies your immune system makes against dengue. IgM appears from around day five and points to a current or very recent infection; IgG rises later and, in high levels early, can suggest a repeat infection with a different dengue strain.
Who should consider it
Patients who have already had fever for five days or more, and those whose NS1 test came back negative but whose symptoms still suggest dengue. Testing too early is the single most common reason a dengue antibody result is falsely reassuring.
Preparation
No fasting required. Timing relative to fever onset matters far more than fasting.
