Description
What this test measures
Prolactin is a pituitary hormone best known for its role in breast milk production, but it also influences the menstrual cycle and fertility in women and testosterone in men. It is unusually reactive – stress, sleep, exercise and even the anxiety of a blood draw can push it up temporarily.
Who should consider it
Women with irregular or absent periods, difficulty conceiving, or milky nipple discharge outside pregnancy; men with low libido, erectile difficulty or unexplained breast tenderness. Also checked when certain medications are known to raise prolactin.
Preparation
A mid-morning sample, roughly two to three hours after waking, is preferred. Rest quietly for 20 to 30 minutes before collection, avoid exercise and breast stimulation beforehand, and mention any medication you take.
Reports and home collection
Same-day report. Free home collection across Gaur City, Sector 4 and Tech Zone 4.
